Cold Winter months Are Coming

With the famous British winter knocking on our doors it is time to start considering your winter wardrobe. Unfortunately It’s time to cast aside those summer dresses and time to pull out your chunky knitwear and thermal underwear.
On a serious note, with the increase in fuel prices up to 90,000 senior citizens could die due to severe cold according to charity organisations. This heightens the importance of dressing appropriately for the long winter months.

Below Classic British Styles has compiled a list of our key tips to stay warm for winter:-

-If possible try staying active inside your property eg vacuuming.

-If you have problems moving your arms or legs then wiggle your toes and fingers.

-Eat regular hot meals or hot drinks to stay warm. Try making a home made soup, using vegetable stock as a basis and then add various vegetables which are full of vitamins and minerals.

-Try to stock up on foods so that you don`t have to go to the shops and venture out into the cold.

- Very importantly make sure that you dress appropriately whether you are indoors or outdoors. Wearing several layers of clothing will help to keep the cold out by trapping air between them. If you are a woman then ladies thermal underwear is a great way to beat the chill. If you are a man then conside wearing long johns.

-Wear a pair of slippers.

- When venturing outside make sure that you wear a hat as most of your body heat is lost through your head. Wear warm layers under your coat and make sure that you have a pair of gloves on and a scarf.

-Inside the home you should make sure that you are keeping your living room and bedroom warm enough. The recommended temperature is 21 degrees Celsius. If you are really struggling to pay the bills then you may need to move into one room for the winter months. If the temperature drops below 16 degrees Celsius, the elderly are at risk from hypothermia or stroke so keep a thermometer handy so you know what the temperature is.

-Draught proof your property. This is a relatively cheap form of energy saving tip but works wonders.

-Loft insulation is vital as hot air rises which could get lost through the roof of your property. It is worth finding out if there is a local government scheme to see if you can get a reduction on the cost of loft insulation or water tank lagging.

-Wear the correct clothing to bed at night. Thermal underwear , pyjamas or bed socks will help keep you warm throughout the night.
